Every time we ring in the new year, we make a list of resolutions. Sometimes this includes saving money or picking up a new hobby, but have you thought about the goals for around your home? In the spirit of new beginnings, Elite Heating & Air has come up with four resolutions for you to keep around your house for 2020.
Clean and declutter
Why wait for spring? Now is the perfect time for a deep clean and cleanse! With the holidays finally over, you’re probably realizing you acquired a mountain of stuff that need a home in your house. This will require a little bit of purging and if you have a slight hoarding problem, it might prove to be difficult. That’s why we recommend starting with the most lived-in area and going down from there.
Now that you’ve got your starting point, it’s time to start the decluttering process. Begin by tossing out useless items such as expired makeup, used notebooks, and broken electronics. If you have a hard time lettings things go, try to donate it. With this mindset, you’ll know that your beloved items will be put to better use by someone in need.
Create a regular cleaning schedule (and keep up with it)
Oftentimes, we make new year’s resolutions and forget about them by January 2. We totally understand— life gets in the way! If keeping a clean home was on your list, we hope this tip can help you stick to it. Instead of letting a big mess pile up, tackle minor issues daily or weekly. For example, you can make the bed every morning, load the dishwasher every night, and put away all your clothes. On a weekly basis, you can sweep and vacuum the floors, dust surfaces, and do a full load of laundry.
Do not buy anything unless you have a specific need for it
All the decluttering means nothing if you can’t kick your shopping addiction to the curb. Start the new year by being spending more mindfully. If you find yourself tempted to click that “confirm purchase” button, ask yourself if you really NEED that item. If it doesn’t serve a purpose in your home, you might be better off without it.
Lower your bills (and your carbon footprint)
Like many others out there, you might be looking to conserve some money. With these changes, you can go green while saving some green:
Install LED bulbs and low-flow showerheads.
Only do laundry when you have a full load.
Schedule seasonal HVAC maintenance to ensure an efficient heating and cooling system.
Turn off the lights when you leave a room.
